Tour Itinerary

Cappadocia is one of those rare places that simply has no equal. Sculpted by millions of years of volcanic eruption and erosion, its landscape of fairy chimneys, cave churches, and underground cities has captivated travellers for centuries. This private tour takes you through the very best of it — from a pre-dawn hot air balloon flight to an evening of Turkish folklore — with your own guide setting the pace.

To experience hot air ballooning in such a unique and challenging environment you need to rise well before sunrise. It’s all about the wind and weather conditions, so our experienced pilots and ground crew will decide where — or even if — we take off. Once you arrive at the launch site, it’s all hands on deck as you help get these enormous balloons unfurled and inflated. The unique terrain allows skilled pilots to navigate through narrow valleys and ascend to breathtaking heights. An unforgettable experience for everyone on board.

“No place on earth compares to Cappadocia when it comes to ballooning.”

After the flight you will be transferred back to your hotel for breakfast and a well-deserved rest before the day’s touring begins.

Pasabag & Zelve Open Air Museum

Later that morning your guide will meet you at reception. The day begins with some light trekking through the valleys, where extraordinary rock formations, ancient cave churches, and carved dovecotes line the route at every turn. You’ll visit Pasabag, famous for its rare triple-headed fairy chimneys — some of the most striking natural sculptures in all of Cappadocia. From there, you’ll move on to Zelve Open Air Museum, a remarkable site that served as an important monastic centre for early Christians and later became a living village, with homes, chapels, and workshops all carved directly into the soft volcanic rock. Lunch is here, enjoyed in the cool shade of the cliffs and ancient walnut trees.

Goreme Open Air Museum

A short drive brings you to the Göreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest collections of Byzantine rock-cut architecture anywhere in the world. The churches here, carved into the hillside between the 10th and 11th centuries, are decorated with extraordinary frescoes from the post-iconoclastic period — vivid, detailed, and remarkably well-preserved. Outside of Europe, there is simply nowhere else to see early Christian art of this quality in such abundance.

Kaymakli Underground City

Next, you descend — quite literally — into the ancient underground world of Kaymakli. More than 36 underground cities have been discovered across the Cappadocia region, and Kaymakli is the largest open to visitors, with nine levels cleared and accessible. Originally used as winter storage for animals and crops, these vast subterranean complexes were expanded over centuries into sophisticated shelters where entire communities could retreat in times of war or persecution. Legend holds that the underground cities are connected by tunnels stretching all the way to Kayseri — your guide will fill in the remarkable details as you explore.

Uchisar

From the underground city you’ll drive up to Uçhisar, the highest point in Cappadocia. This dramatic natural rock citadel, riddled with carved rooms and passages, served for centuries as a watchtower and fortress for the communities of the region. From its summit on a clear day, the entire volcanic landscape stretches out in every direction — an extraordinary panorama that puts the scale of Cappadocia into perspective.

To close the day, you’ll take part in one of Turkey’s oldest and most beloved traditions: the Turkish Bath (Hammam). Around 45 minutes of steaming, scrubbing, and deep relaxation — you’ll emerge feeling like a new person. From there it’s back to the hotel to rest before the evening’s Turkish Folklore Show, a lively celebration of Anatolian dance, music, food and wine, with no limit on local spirits and good humour.

“You will leave with lifelong memories of this and of all your experiences in Cappadocia.”
